■ Overview

■ Outline of psychrometer

A psychrometer is composed of two identical glass thermometers, with one of them whose bulb is covered with a wet wick. This bulb is called as a wet bulb while the other is defined as a dry bulb.

Water on a wet bulb takes heat away when it gets evaporated so that the humidity can be calculated from the gap of the temperatures on the wet bulb and the dry bulb.

There are two genres of psychrometer: aspirated psychrometer which SK-RHG series belongs to, and simple psychrometer.

Aspirated psychrometer has a fan to blow air to the wet bulb to realize precise measurement compared to a simple psychrometer.

In addition to the above categories, aspirated psychrometer is classified into three types as mercury thermometer type like SK-RHG series, resistance thermometer type, and thermocouple type. Regardless of difference in methods, what is essential for accurate measurement is a proper ventilation around the wet bulb. Every aspirated psychrometer is designed to blow the wind for a necessary amount.

If only either of the pair is exchanged with a new one, the spacing between the graduations on the thermometers may differ.

Note that the certificate by JMA will be invalid if either one or two is replaced or damaged. Ask us for retest of certification.
